INTRODUCTION
The need for contextual rules in-game is so important, and I personally don't understand why they haven't been put in place for more subjective rules before.
With the insults rule, it depends on whether or not the other player is offended by the insult for the insulter to be sanctioned.
This is a contextual rule.
This isn't in place for slurs (offensive terms) at all.
No matter who says it, or it's context.
This was changed recently for people saying 'n word' as long as it's not in a provocative manner, so why hasn't this changed for other slurs too?
HOW IT WOULD WORK
Exactly how the new provocation rule works, and how insults works too.
If the homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic or racist terms are used in a non provocative situation,
the person should not be sanctioned.
Moderators shouldn't enforce the rules blindly, and instead should take into consideration the context behind what has been said.
For example, if I were on cafe and we were discussing how unjust in some areas the rules are,
and I mention a transphobic slur in the context of an example to provide evidence for one of my points,
I should not be sanctioned. I didn't do any harm to anyone in any community,
and anyone within the LGBTQA+ community will know that most terms are vastly reclaimed by the respective smaller groups.
There is no reason to sanction these things if there's nothing to sanction for.
Just like in the new rule regarding the n word, players should be reminded that:
''If players are caught trying to abuse this new system or if they have clear intentions of bypassing the Homophobia/Transphobia/Xenophobia/Racism Sanction by using an indirect term instead, they will be sanctioned for Provocation immediately.''
SIDENOTE: The t slur shouldn't be grouped into the homophobia sanction, it's invalidating to transgender people and in the face of transphobia, transphobes should be met with a transphobia sanction -- not a homophobia sanction. straight transgender people exist.
CONCLUSION
Please understand how harmful the current rules are, and how it can shut down people who are trying to advocate for LGBT+ rights,
and the right to say the term without feeling like it's something they should take offense for.
Contextual rules are also important for making moderators understand that not everything is black and white.
Some people are simply trying to discuss things, and using the slurs as examples of poor language shouldn't be sanctionable.
All slurs are equally as horrific as each other.
